Walking Away From Texas is an enticing story that will have you finishing this pleasant read in one sitting.

A glance at the synopsis of the book and we will find a glaring cliché, a typical high school love story of one best friend falling for the other (even more so that it is between a cheerleader and jock). Without giving away too much, I have to be EXTREMELY clear that this book is quite unique – in a good way.
In Walking Away From Texas, we follow the story of Katie and Alan, friends from childhood who together are facing very real and very relatable issues for seniors in high school, one of which being choosing the college they will want to attend next year. You may think in a high school cliche all will end in love and happily ever after, but the problem is Alan and Katie have aspirations that would lead them to be in different states the following year. Grab this short read for an incredible and touching experience.

As a college student myself, reading this book really made me smile and think of my senior year, and all of the close friends I had who moved away for college. The best POSITIVE aspect of the book that I cannot stress enough is the RELATABILITY.

Who should read this book?

I really recommend giving this a go if you are either a student or a parent with kids who are going away for college. High schoolers will always think their childhood friends will be BFF’s forever, but we all know that the harsh reality is that its simply not the case. I think this book can be very eye opening for your teen, heck, it’s a very short read, what’s there to lose?

What can I say for Sharon Bradley? Sharon Bradley is an excellent author and her book “Walking away from Texas” is a masterpiece of love, life and the choices we make in our own life. The characters of the book, Katie Mitchell and Alan Thomas, have an incredible uniqueness, yet remind us of something of our own selves, our own passions, our own thoughts and options in life. This is the second time I read this book. The Walking away from Texas is so moving having the power to change you as a person and making you see clearly who you are and where you want to go through your options in life. I know that it sounds a bit strange, but this is the greatness of the book. I will re-read the book for sure many many times. maybe because i am young and the life is ahead. I am waiting for the next book of Sharon Bradley, which I am sure it will be as good as this one and even better!!! Highly recommend it!!!
