Financial Planning for the 99%: Financial Planning for Those Who Need it Most

The financial services industry makes it difficult for the average American to get good and dependable financial advice. The fact that we are asked to put our money at risk to get financial advice may be the reason 99% of Americans do not use a financial advisor. The practices of the financial services industry may be adequate for wealthy individuals, just not everyone else!

This book provides comprehensive education on personal finance, including strategies for investing, income taxes, retirement planning, life insurance, financing education, improving credit scores, reducing debt, home and car buying, student loan repayments, business development, digital (crypto) currency, and more.

The book covers Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement plans, Social Security, annuities, reverse mortgages, long term care, estate planning, and more.

Written by a seasoned financial professional, this work is meant to be a one-stop guide to help Americans reach success in areas that most affect their finances.

I purchased this book as someone with an eye towards a career in financial planning. What I quickly recognized, as Mr. Guilford points out at the beginning, is that the skills and expertise of financial planners are not within the reach of most people. Most financial planners will require that you have some minimum amount of Assets Under Management (AUM) and that number is often around $100,000. This is the foundational information everyone else should have to manage their finances. The great this is that this resource exists and it’s affordable. The downside is that it’s a book. You can’t just read it and expect your financial problems to be improved. You’re going to have to put pen to paper or numbers to spreadsheets and work on a plan for a budget, investments, and insurance. But if you can do that, you’ll be in a good spot.
