Norman

Dream of A Lifetime : Ten Years in The Upper Amazon

Norman Walters and his longtime business partner Lawrence Bishop have sought out and experienced what most souls are terrified of: The Precipice of Life. From playing music in Greenwich Village in the 1960s to building an ecological touristic paradise in the Peruvian Amazon tropical rain forest in the 1990s, they have consistently gone against the odds, winning…losing…and calling it even. This is part one of a story full of obstacles, hardships, culture blending, creating a dream, and facing sorrow as well as joy with the same bold gusto.

Norman Walters lived for ten years in the Peruvian Upper Amazon, 110 miles up the Amazon River from Iquitos, Peru boasting 400,000 inhabitants that was accessible by boat or air exclusively. No roads in! He is the co-founder of YACUMAMA LODGE, which was carved from the deep jungle without cutting down a single dominant tree. These are his stories.
