Danny the New Kid in School

[real3dflipbook "https://www.thefestivalofstorytellers.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/9781947765177.pdf"]

Danny is the new kid in school. It’s never fun to be the new person. Sometimes people stare, ask questions, or make you feel uncomfortable. And sometimes others can be mean. Anxious about school at first and amid setbacks and trepidation, Danny is determined to do better. Danny meets another new kid, Timmy, who becomes his best friend. Together, the two boys grow and learn, eventually becoming confident, self-assured boys, ready to tackle the next phase: middle school. Danny even closes the year with a big victory. Any child who has been a new kid in school will understand the trials and triumphs Danny encounters throughout his fifth-grade year.

Author Roslyn C. Thorpe has done a wonderful job creating characters and a story that really reflect the feeling of being the new kid in school when you are young in her book Danny the New Kid in School. The story follows Danny as he starts the 5th grade as the new kid. He is nervous and uncomfortable as people stare and laugh. But Danny quickly makes a new friend, realizes he isn’t the only new kid, and begin to thrive at school.
This book is a great and quick read for kids feeling anxious about being the new kid as it shows that awkwardness is normal but quickly goes away. This is a cute story with a sweet and clear message. The 40-page story is an easy read, perfect for young readers beginning the jump to chapter books. It has a chapter book feel while being short and easy to read. There are also illustrations between chapters that depict a fun moment from the chapter before and bring it to life in a pen outline style. These are fun and break up the chapters, making it an even easier read.
This book is great for young readers as it offers characters and situations that are relatable. Danny and his best friend Timmy are fun characters, and I like that they are close but have separate interests and skills, making them more realistic friends. I would definitely give this book five stars as a wonderful book for young readers. Thorpe’s style is simple but fun as she navigates the adventures of a young boy dealing with the ups and downs of life.
